I spent yesterday, which was my day off rummaging thru accumulated stacks of dusty cd’rs. Some of these were useless copies of albums, that were obviously NOT worth purchasing, while the rest were PRICELESS time capsules containing hoarded beats, forgotten photos, and archived, unmixed & unreleased material from the FINAL Austin/EARLY San Francisco days.
Among these files was one of my FAVORITE projects to record, even though it BARELY saw the light of day! Sometime in March of 2006, I found 2 dope producers from ANCHORAGE, ALASKA on myspace (RIP)! One of them was EETS BEATS. The other was the ENIGMA known through-out the world of Club music as CURTIS VODKA. After giving his tunes a listen I was straight up FASCINATED! I had NEVER heard beats of this magnitude, ESPECIALLY from a then 19 year old kid.
After 2 conversations, we agreed that we should work together! Mr. Vodka sent me a handful of beats and I went right to work. I would also find a TON of his other beats online under different aliases. A year later, I would have 13-15 joints recorded for what was to be called “AUSTIN2ANCHORAGE”. This project was a mixture of Hip-Hop, B-More Club, Abstract Beats, Crunk, Emo-tronic, & everything in between. Guests included KtheI?!? (Mush), GABY HERNANDEZ (Build An Ark), TASZ ONE (GHK), & a couple other crew members. This would also be my personal invitation to my then roommate, CEREBRAL VORTEX to start messing with some of this Club/Electronic stuff that I had pretty much abandoned “straight up” Hip-Hop for a couple years earlier; he has since moved on to become the undisputed KING of the Electro Club Rap genre!
After the final recordings were done, I sent a copy to Curtis. For whatever personal reasons, he TOTALLY HATED THE PROJECT (he hated the cover too)! LOL. He said that he was “over” the beats that he had given me, & that it was BLASPHEMOUS to RAP (REAL RAPPING) to CLUB music… A MILLION Hipster/Nerd Rappers later, I guess it WASN’T a bad idea (THANK ME LATER, BITERS)! Due to the RAW sound of most of these records, you may NEVER get a chance to hear them. Here are some of the PRIME cuts. Hope you enjoy!
